Forthcoming Event - 40th anniversary of last open-platform buses in Sheffield
30 December 2016 marks the 40th anniversary of the operation of traditional open-platform buses in normal service in Sheffield. It is planned to mark the occasion with a tour using ex-Sheffield PD3 904 to run over some/all the routes on which the last back loaders operated. 12th October - First SY to close Rotherham depot?
First South Yorkshire have announced the commencement of a period of formal consultation on plans to close their Midland Road, Rotherham depot by February 2017. Under the proposals, all vehicle mileage, buses and driving staff will transfer to either Olive Grove (Sheffield) depot, and a small number to Leger Way (Doncaster) depot. The future of the 'Commercial Unit' is unclear at present though it is feared there will be a small number of redundancies amongst engineering and depot supervision staff. 8th August - Enviro 200MMCs for Chesterfield and Sheffield
Two batches of Alexander Dennis Enviro 200MMCs are currently being delivered to local operators:
- Stagecoach Yorkshire's Chesterfield depot have placed their batch of 7 vehicles in to service today. Carrying fleet numbers 26081-7 and registered YY16 YJL/M/N/O/P/R/S the Chesterfield batch are mainly for use on service 54 (Chesterfield - Clay Cross), for which 26081-4 are branded.
- First South Yorkshire are in the process of receiving a batch of 10 E200MMCs, which will enter service at Olive Grove during September. Carrying fleetnumbers 67141-50 the vehicles are registered YY16 YLN/O/P/R/S/T/U/V/W/X. These vehicles are to displace 'short' StreetLites 47482-90 from Olive Grove which are to return to Doncaster depot.

29th April - Optare MetroDecker Demonstrator for First SY
First South Yorkshire placed Optare MetroDecker demonstrator 35000 (YJ16 DFG) in use at their Rotherham depot on Friday 29th April. This is the latest in a series of demonstrators from various manufacturers to be used at Rotherham as part of a group-wide fuel consumption trial. 27th April - First and Stagecoach Vehicle Orders
Both First and Stagecoach have announced details of their national vehicle order for the 2016/7 Financial Year. Of local interest are:
- included in the First order are 20x Wright StreetLites for First South Yorkshire (see below), 10x Alexander Dennis E400MMCs for First South Yorkshire (Olive Grove) and 37x Wright StreetDecks for First West Yorkshire.
- included in the Stagecoach order are 9x Alexander Dennis E400MMCs for Barnsley depot (provisionally allocated fleet numbers 10655-63), 3x Alexander Dennis E400MMCs for Worksop depot (provisionally allocated fleet numbers 10663-5), 15x Alexander Dennis E400MMCs for Hull depot (provisionally allocated fleet numbers 10734-48) and 7x Alexander Dennis E200MMCs for Chesterfield depot (provisionally allocated fleet numbers 26081-7).
14th April - More StreetLites for First SY
Delivery is shortly to commence of a batch of 20 Mercedes-engined Wright Streetlite 'Max' vehicles for First South Yorkshire. Six of these (fleet numbers 63369 to 63374) are for Rotherham depot, with the remaining 14 (fleet numbers 63375 to 63388) for Doncaster depot.

8th February - Tate's Travel Cease Trading
Tate's Travel Ltd have ceased trading at the close of business on Monday 8th February 2016 - though in reality most vehicles returned to the depot once the news was announced to staff around midday. SYPTE and METRO are seeking replacement operators for Tate's contracted services. The associated Globe Holidays Ltd and Rosa Holdings Ltd businesses continue to operate. What is likely to become the closing fleetlist for Tate's Travel has been added to the fleet lists page.
15th January - New Enviro200MMCs Take to the Road
Stagecoach Yorkshire placed 14 new Alexander Dennis Enviro200MMCs in service - 4 at Barnsley depot and 10 at Rawmarsh depot. The vehicles, which are to B41F layout, were launched at an event today at Barnsley FC's Oakwell stadium, and are:
- 26020-23 (YX65 PZV/W/Y/Z) allocated to Barnsley, of which 26020/1/2 are branded for service 11 (Barnsley - Athersley North)
- 26024-33 (YX65 RAU/RBF/O/U/V/Y/Z/CF/O/U) allocated to Rawmarsh, of which 26024-31 are branded for service 22X (Barnsley - Wath - Rotherham).
