Stagecoach Yorkshire launched their new X10 service in late October which runs between Barnsley and Leeds via Darton and the M1.  The services operates 7 days a week, with end-to-end journey times of around 52 minutes and utilises 3 Volvo/Plaxton Elite coaches previously deployed on National Express work.  Here appropriately branded 53714 (YN60 ACJ) is seen en-route to Leeds on the very first X10 journey.  Photo courtesy of Roy Wilson

​Looking a little out of place in Sheffield City Centre is East Yorkshire Motor Services 596 (PJ02 RBV), a Volvo B7TL/Plaxton President new to London General.  This vehicle is currently on loan to TM Travel, covering for a shortage of double deckers.  Photo courtesy of Matt Brothwell

31st July 2017 - Various updates

A quick digest of happenings during July:

  • A number of our fleet lists have were brought up to date on 31st July - see the Fleet Lists page for further details.  Note that owing to holidays these lists will not be updated again until mid-September
  • The 6 loan Enviro 200s at First South Yorkshire were taken out of use towards the end of July owing to the reduced Peak Vehicle Requirement (PVR) during the summer school holidays.  It is unclear whether they will return in September when the PVR returns to normal
  • As expected, North Anston based Brightbus ceased operations at the end of the school term in July.  SYPTE have worked quickly to advise of replacement services for the new school year in September, and most of the fleet has been advertised for sale on eBay.  The closing fleet list for Brightbus can be found on our fleet lists page.
  • Late July also saw the closure of Stanley Gath Ltd, trading as M Travel following an appearance before the Traffic Commissioner earlier that month. The closing fleet list for Stanley Gath can be found on our fleet lists page.


​​28th June 2017 - Loan Enviros for First South Yorkshire

Six Alexander Dennis Enviro200s have joined the First South Yorkshire fleet based at Olive Grove depot to cover a vehicle shortage.  All vehicles are 29 seaters and are operating in 'dealer white' livery.  Though generally intended for use on some of the quieter former Rotherham depot workings some have also seen use in Sheffield.  The vehicles are:

  • 44936 (MX62 GYC), which has previously operated locally for Hulley's
  • 44937 (MK63 XAC)
  • 44939 (YX14 RZE)
  • 44940 (MX62 GNJ)
  • 44941 (MX14 FUG)
  • 44942 (YY64 TXW), which has previously operated locally for SCT

3rd May 2017 - MASS/Brightbus to close in July

It has been announced that North Anston based MASS Transit (t/a Brightbus) is to cease operations at the end of the school term in July owing to the ill-health of MD Mick Strafford.  The company, whose fleet includes a large number of former Hong Kong tri-axle 'deckers, operates commercial schools services in the South Yorkshire and North Nottinghamshire areas.  We wish Mr Strafford and all company employees all the best for the future.​

Dove Holes based High Peak Buses took over the Derbyshire County Council contracted element of service 65 (Sheffield - Tideswell - Buxton) from late March, operating 2 round trips Monday to Saturday.  Wellglade-owned TM Travel retain the other workings on the service.  High Peak Buses is a joint venture between the Wellglade Group and CentreBus, with vehicles - including Scania/Wright 703 (TIL 4051, new as YN51 MJE) pictured here departing Sheffield for Buxton - wearing the latters livery.  Photo courtesy of Roy Wilson

​19th February 2017 - FSY Rotherham Depot closed
The First South Yorkshire depot at Midland Road, Rotherham closed after operation on Sunday 19th February, with all remaining vehicles and work transferring to the Olive Grove, Sheffield depot.

A new operator to the streets of South Yorkshire from late-January is Arriva-owned Yorkshire Tiger, who were awarded SYPTE Tenders in the Barnsley and Dearne Valley areas with a vehicle requirement of 8.  Yorkshire Tiger have opened a new depot at Wombwell to service this work, to which a number of second-hand Optare Solos are allocated.  One of these, MX03 EHC is pictured here at Chapeltown about to commence a duty on service 72 to Manvers.  Photo courtesy of Matt Brothwell
